Marizete was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She brings with her the true spirit of a carioca (someone who is from Rio) in her love of spreading Brazilian culture. A dancer for many years, trained in the Academia de Dança de Salão Egídio (Center of Rio), Centro de Dança Jaime Arôxa (Botafogo, Rio), Carlinhos de Jesus (Botafogo, Rio) and has had classes with many other great dance teachers in Rio de Janeiro. She has danced in the Sambodromo for Carnival with many samba schools. Marizete worked at the Academia de Dança de Salão Egídio for two years and taught samba with Professor Egídio in many dance studios in New York City, such as Sandra Cameron, Dance Sport and Stepping Out. Marizete currently teaches Samba and Forro at Ripley-Grier studios in New York City. She is also the organizer of the New York Samba meetup group, and a member of Manhattan Samba, New Yorks longest running Brazilian samba band. She gives group lessons, private lessons, and workshops. She also, teaches and performs at parties and gives seminars on samba and Brazilian music. When you take classes with Marizete or spend time with her you feel the true spirit of Brazil and her love of dance, people and life. That helps to get her through the cold winters of New York City. She needs samba to keep her heart warm and happy while she waits for the warmer weather of spring, or her next trip back to Brazil.

Marizete is married to an American named Kilby (aka the Gringo, the malandro or the sambista) who is a self proclaimed fan of Marizete and all things Brazilian.

Kilby is the faithful teaching assistant of Marizete, and a member of the New York City Rio style bateria band Manhattan Samba.

Marizete and Kilby's own love story, and love of Brazilian culture and dance has even been the subject of an international television program. It has been shown on the Brazilian TV network, TV Globo.

It aired on the show "Planeta Brazil" on July 30th, 2005 to over fifty countries around the world, and the segment was so popular the it reaired at years end during the best of the season program.

They currently live in New Jersey and their hearts reside in Brazil.
