FORRO With Marizete & Jailson Begins
Wed, Sep 15th 7:00 to 8:00pm SAMBA DE GAFIEIRA With Marizete & Jailson Begins
Wed, Sep 15th 8:00 to 9:00pm
Where: Ripley-Grier Studios 520 8th Ave bet 36/37, 16th Floor New York, NY 10018
Learn
to samba to the different styles of samba music: pagode, bossa nova, choro, batucada, samba reggae, and carnival.
Each class begins with a 5 to 10 minute warm-up session with movements and exercises to loosen up
the body, and especially the hips which are essential to dancing a good samba. The warm-up is followed by the breakdown of
the individual steps that you will learn, choreographed by Marizete, and you will follow her by imitating her movements. Learning samba dance steps begins with basic foot movements, then a combination of arm and
hip movements, beginning with slow songs, and getting progressively faster with each passing week. You will learn
how to samba moving side to side, back and forth, and in circular motions. After you learn the basic steps you will learn
some sequences of steps to use when you are dancing with your friends. Always remember that the more you practice what you
learn in class the more you get out of your next class. The most important thing is to dance, smile, be happy and express
yourself through the movements that you learn in class.

SAMBA SOLO (SAMBA NO PÉ)
The origin is intimately linked to the history of samba and
carnival. Samba foot always meant freedom and relaxation. It is the dance for yourself and those around. The samba avenue,
one of the dancers, samba is legitimate that is passed from generation to generation in communities and schools of samba.
SAMBA DE GAFIEIRA (SAMBA PARTNER) WHY NOT DANCE SAMBA
WITH A PARTNER? It is therapeutic, gives you more self esteem,
helps eliminate stress, introduces you to new friends, and the best thing, it makes you happier! "Who dances is happier" Samba de Gafieira is a partner dance completely different from International
Ballroom Samba. It appeared in the 40s and it gets its name from the Gafieira - popular urban nightclubs of Rio de Janeiro
at that time. It is originally from Rio de Janeiro, and is the partner version of the world-renowned Brazilian dance, SAMBA.
The dance derived
from the Maxixe and followed the arrival of the Choro (another samba musical style). It left most of the Maxixe's Polka elements
behind but maintained the entwined leg movements of the Argentine Tango, although adopting a more relaxed posture than the
later. Many see this form of Samba as a combination of Waltz and Tango and several Brazilian dancing academies actually use
elements and techniques of these two dances to teach Samba de Gafieira movements and choreographies. This style is present
in dance academies worldwide. Samba de Gafieira is a stylish, beautiful and creative couple dance. It is has energetic movements and connection
between the couple. Samba de Gafieira can be danced (with the exception of fast carnival songs) to Bossa Nova, pagode, choro,
samba canção, and others hot paced sambas. Through its unique combination of dance genres and Samba styles, Samba de Gafieira
establishes its own identity, allowing the dancer to express both grace and playfulness with intimacy and strength.
